Syd, you are right. We did meet in person first, but we didn't really start chatting till we took it to the bluebird. I love you dearly regardless.

I agree. I will say that the examples I used were probably just the easiest to get across to most people. Since every one is more concerned about their own person I tried to put it in a view that shows value for their personal interest. NYC is a small city when it comes to the social space so I know what you mean.

When it comes down to it, the people I've met, the people I have yet to meet are all out there. Twitter just brings us closers. The marketing value and product push is all there. As a communicator, I see that. However, that isn't what I use twitter for. With me, its more of an avenue of meeting new people that share the same ideas, or that have completely different ideas. Which ever happens, it happens.

Ultimately its just a big conversation. No one should be afraid because its "online." It is just like meeting people in a bar or at school or at an event. It brings people together. Those non-twitter-ers need to realize its potential to make friends and talk to people in general. I mean, we do live with these people, why not meet them?

Hahaha. Believe me if I could have found someone better but I'm sure you didn't want to be a white guy or a girl, of any color. Glad to have met you, sir. I'm more glad (if thats even correct) to continue to build a friendship with you.

Great analogy! I really like it!
Recently I started posting interestnig analogies I found on the web on blog.ygolana.com. I thought it could be a good idea to create a place where people can share useful analogies such as yours.

I was gonna say, um, THAT'S NOT ME.

And, Patrick, you know me from USF - before you were on Twitter. So, there's that.

But yes. You're right. Partially.

While Twitter, to us, is a large conversation - some people use it to drive traffic. Those are the annoying people at networking parties that stalk you and tell you to check out their blog/website/newest venture and don't bother to ask you how you're doing.

Some people use it to cross-post from other outlets (automatically) because they know they "need to be there" but they don't get it. At a party, those are the people that heard about it, know it's probably good for them to go, but they don't hear a word that comes out of anyone's mouth because they're checked out.

Personally, for the most part, I'm over the tweetups. It's the same peeps, all the time. This big city is really the biggest small town I've ever lived in. Not to say that the events aren't fun - but with limited spare time - there is A LOT to do here and I have A LOT of ground to cover - and I'm trying to diversify my experiences here.

Some events, however, are like middle school "socials". Where the mean girls stand in one corner and try to recruit potential mean girls. Which is all fine and good until the mean girls realize that you're a threat to their ultimate mission: to get a boyfriend. So then they get all snarky and middle-school-ey and you leave wondering why you just wasted a couple hours with some middle-schoolers.

But yes, for us, it's a big conversation. I use Twitter to talk to people that I can't otherwise talk to on a daily basis. And I love it. And I embrace the people that use it for different reasons because, after all, that's what social is all about - doing with it whatever you choose.

HELLO SOAPBOX, I'LL STEP OFF YOU NOW.
